Chaplefield
Punctuated by the Cathedral, City Hall and Castle, the Norwich skyline presents us with classic examples of architecture from a range of periods. The Chapelfield spire continues the tradition with a contemporary design. comprising a semi transparent ovoid form, invisibly suspended within a stainless steel frame. This work sits above the focal point of the Chaplefield complex and can seen from many points around the city. During the day, light passes easily through both spire frame and the semi-transparent pod. The outer framework comprises a tracery of stainless steel tubing which can be either a fine silhouette, or can sparkle when sun shines directly on it. At night the feature comes into its own as the integrated lighting comprising LED luminaries come into play. There is an extraordinary flexibility in this design, as by using light, one can radically change the appearance and colour of the spire.
